Instinctive
Interfaces to connect Body, Mind & Space
Contact : Monika
Fleischmann, Wolfgang Strauss
The main focus of our projects
is the development of instinctive interfaces. We understand social interaction
as the basis of digital communication. Since 1989 we have worked within
the field of communication spaces, extended performances, unsharp interfaces
and interactive storytelling. These concepts have resulted in works as the
Berlin Cyber City, Home of the Brain, Responsive Workbench, Liquid Views,
Rigid Waves, Spatial Navigator - House of Illusion, Virtual Balance and
Skywriter. Further productions in the Virtual Studio have been Video Only
- Virtual Performance and the award winning Cyberstar '95 concept "Paramatrix".
Media using interactive or
distributed communication technologies influence and change both human
perception and artistic design. While conventional illusory techniques
such as used on stage or on TV are limited in scope and separated from
the spectator, virtual media opens unlimited spaces. They handle the disintegration
of space and the narration of nonlinear stories. Modern virtual reality
techniques turn the body into an interface for penetrating the walls of
reality. Interaction is communication in real time. Digital media emphasizes
the idea of interactivity as the mediator of personal experience. As the
body is exposed to new experiences of space, technology becomes a possibility
to rediscover our senses.
